Relaxing Rural Escapes

Welcome to Waveney Cottages.

We are Sarah, a textile designer, and Stuart, a Roux trained chef, artisan baker and restorer of period properties.

We live on the Suffolk/Norfolk border with our three small children and two dogs. It’s a beautiful area with forest, heathland, undulating fields and river valleys, pretty market towns and medieval churches.

We’ve been working hard to restore three period properties to create stunning holiday cottages which we want to share with you.

Where will you choose to stay?

We have three beautifully decorated cottages to offer you.

Our Location

Our beautiful cottages are situated on the Suffolk Norfolk border, in the heart of the East Anglian countryside. It’s a beautiful area with forest, heathland, undulating fields and river valleys…pretty market towns, traditional pubs and medieval churches. The Suffolk and North Norfolk coastlines are just an hour’s drive with numerous beaches to explore. The wonderful historic cities of Norwich and Cambridge are also easily accessible by road or rail. Both the Suffolk and Norfolk Broads, with their miles of waterways, are less than an hour away. You can admire them from the banks, with their numerous footpaths and cycle routes, or hire a boat for the day and admire them from the water instead. You won’t be short of things to do when you stay.

Amenities

Welcome Pack

Although the cottages are 'self catering' we believe that there are some basics that you really need on arrival... You'll find tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk waiting for you along with a few extra little treats. We will also ensure there is salt, pepper and oil for cooking. The cleaning cupboard will be stocked with washing up liquid, cloths, dishwasher tabs, washing powder, bin bags and tea towels.

Hot Tub

You'll find a private seven seater hot tub at both White House and Thatched Cottage. You really know you're on holiday when you first step into that warm water! Hot tubs are great for relaxing in at any time but we especially enjoy that bubbly warm water when it's frosty and cold all around you. Why not book a winter get away? What could be better than a bracing walk along a windy beach, call in to a traditional village pub for a warming meal on the way back and then slide into those warm bubbles and watch the steam rise up into the chilly evening air.

Bedding

Each of our beds, in all three properties, are made up with 100% cotton sheets and pillow cases. We've also chosen feather pillows for that added touch of luxury. (non feather available on request)
Each guest will be supplied with 100% cotton towels to use during their stay. 1 x Bath Sheet, 1 x bath towel, 1 x face cloth per guest and hand towels in all bathrooms. A toweling gown will be supplied to all adults staying at Thatched Cottage and White House. You'll need one to wrap around you if you ever want to get out of the hot tub!'

Log Burners

On winter evenings you'll be in heaven at White House which boasts not one but two wood burners. After a long day of exploring the local area you can kick off your shoes, snuggle up and enjoy a glass of bubbly by the wood burner in the TV area. There's also something very decadent and cosy about eating a leisurely breakfast or brunch along side the wood burner in the dining area. It's also pretty special to enjoy an evening meal there too!

Wortham Ling

'Fox Cottage and White House are situated on the very edge of Wortham Ling. The Ling is an SSSI- a 53 hectare heathland nature reserve. The public have full and free access to walk on the Ling. The hundreds of rabbits that live there help keep the grass short whilst the heather and gorse are a wonderful habitat for birds and butterflies. Wortham Ling is a rare insight into how many Suffolk villages once looked.
