Waveney Cottages

Work continues on the beautiful barge boards. Building up the layers, sanding down the edges and painting. They need a couple more coats of paint and then that’s another tick on the ‘To Do’ list!

It’s rather windy here today but we’ve got a lot to do… tree planting, fencing, path laying, seed sowing, and planning/designing/laying out parking area. I’d better get going!

Now this was a dilemma!!

We’re creating a wood chip path around the pond so that we (and guests!) can walk right around it. We’ve been given wood chips by our tree surgeon friend.
We’ve been saving cardboard to lay under the wood chips. This will suppress the nettles and rot down over time. We’ve also used some pieces of old carpet that we had as waste from home. If we’d taken it to the skip it would have gone to landfill anyway so we figured it might as well sit under our path.

So…. Driving through the countryside yesterday, we spotted a number of carpet pieces that had been dumped at the side of some woodland. We decided we’d do our duty and clear it away. Again, it would be better to use it on our path than leave it in the lay-by.
When I lifted it, I found a mouse had made a nest under the carpet and used the fleece underside to line the nest!! There I was, thinking I was saving the environment!! Thankfully the nest was empty.
So now what?? Leave a dumped carpet or not? We decided we should take it. Sorry Mrs Mouse. There are many other places to make your nest.

What we will do is leave some small carpet squares by the side of our pond. They’re actually an amazing hide away for all kinds of creatures. Those slugs, snails and other bugs are, in turn, food for the frogs, toads and birds. If you want to encourage wildlife to your garden you need to start at the bottom of the food chain! 🐸 🦋

Ooh makes me feel chilly just looking at this!

Lily Pattison I was a bit chilly standing by the pond! Just imagine how cosy it will be to be snuggled up inside the carriage looking out at the snow! 👍

Stuart’s had his compasses out and he’s designed some rather fancy pants barge-boards for the end of the carriage and the gable end of the extension. They’re looking beautiful although they’re not quite finished.
It’s all in the details.

Wow stunning such beautiful detail x

Now it's got it's own little station. Time to think of a name. What a pity that Little Snoring has already been taken. - Mum
