Waveney Cottages

Work continues on the bedroom/shower room extension.

The exterior is now clad in wood on one side and in rusty corrugated iron on the other sides. One thing we’re not lacking in is rusty corrugated iron!

We’ve used new corrugated iron for the roof which we will paint. As much as we love the rustic look… we don’t see that water leaking through the bedroom ceiling would be a big seller for guests!

The tiling is almost complete. It now just needs grouting and we’ll also fix an architrave around the sides to hide the cut edges of the tiles.

Next job…

The carriage will be toasty warm with a small antique woodburner against the back wall.

Before the burner is installed, we have to fix fireproof backing board and tiles on the base and behind where it will sit.

The floor will be reclaimed terracotta pamments. One great thing about living on an old farm, with sheds and barns full of junk, is that you occasionally find treasures! These pamments were stacked up in an old potting shed.

The back tiles are a hand made metro tile with a crackle glaze. We’ll use a grey grout which will also fill the crackles so it will be more obvious when the whole thing is finished.

Two exciting additions to the outside area of the carriage…

The boat was a gift from George the carpenter. Apparently, his friends sometimes give him boats. He doesn’t really know why and he doesn’t have any water to keep them on so he’s passed this one on to us. Thank you!! 🛶 ❤️

Happy Saturday!!

I’ve started to upload a load of photos to our ‘Waveney Cottages’ Instagram page.

I haven’t used it for about a year and I have sooooo many photos of the carriage restoration… I thought it would be a good idea to archive them on Instagram.

I’m photo bombing at the moment so I can catch up to where we are now. It may take a while!
It’s quite incredible to see her then and now.

So…. Pop over and give us a follow, if you don’t already.
